Mexican restaurant Kavas Tacos+Tequila opens in Orlando for Cinco de Mayo

A local husband and wife are opening a new Mexican restaurant in Orlando just in time for Cinco de Mayo.

Kavas Tacos + Tequila had its grand opening celebration Friday at Pointe Orlando.

This family-owned business, Meraki Food Group, also owns Taverna Opa Orlando and Tapa Toro and has been in Orlando’s restaurant scene for 16 years.

The restaurant serves Tex-Mex classic foods and dishes with a fresh take on ambulantes, or street food vendors, in Mexico City.

Here are some of the following dishes, which customers can order separately or share:

  • Shrimp Coctel

  • Ceviche

  • Mezcal Mango Salmon

  • Chimichangas

  • Big Taco Energy

  • 3-foot Taco Board

  • Coconut Tres Leches

  • Flaming S’mores Taco

Guests can also enjoy imported wines, liquor and over 150 tequilas. The restaurant specializes in its Un Poco Coco, Saint Kavas and Mexican Spritz Tree cocktail flight.

Katerina Coumbaros, co-owner of Kavas Tacos + Tequila, said the new restaurant shows Mexican culture and how food can comfort people.

“Our team is forever on a mission to deliver the perfect balance of amazing food and entertainment,” she said.

The grand opening will have a Mariachi show at 7 p.m. and a fire show at 7:30 p.m.
