New Mexican restaurants adds dining option to downtown Logansport

Oct. 16—When it came time to open a new business, Oscar Contreras knew downtown Logansport was the place to be.

Yummy Mi Camino Real, 121 S. 6th St., a new Mexican restaurant, sits across the street from Black Dog Legacy and near the The Science Project, businesses that Contreras admires.

He's no stranger to Logansport. His previous venture, Mi Camino Real, was open for nine years.

Contreras has seen downtown Logansport change over the last couple of years. He said it was common to find the area closing down around six in the evening most nights. Now, with help from his neighbors and businesses like Bonus Pints, life is coming back into the area.

He said customers have come into the new business and were either surprised to see him or asked for him.

"I'm still Oscar," he said. "I'm still here."

The new business opened last Thursday, Oct. 6.

He said business has been encouraging in the first week, especially since they haven't done much promotion yet.

The restaurant offers authentic Mexican meals, and Contreras shared a few of his favorites.

He recommended the Especial! Yummy Pineapple, which features chicken, beef, shrimp, tomato and bell peppers, onions, rice and beans topped with melted cheese. There is also the Burritos Logan with two burritos with grilled steak, mushrooms and onions covered with white cheese and topped with lettuce, sour cream, cheese and tomatoes. The Especial Marquez contains carne asada and chicken breast with grilled onions, peppers and tomatoes and comes with salad, pico de gallo, sour cream and tortillas. It's served with chili especial, rice and beans.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 17, they will have a breakfast menu. Breakfast will run from 9 to 11 a.m.

Yummy Mi Camino Real also offers a variety of milkshakes.

Contreras hoped to establish relationships with local business owners as well as those who work at the nearby Logansport Memorial Hospital, possibly helping doctors and nurses by delivering their meals to them.

Contreras encouraged Logansport to stop and enjoy the family environment, food and good service.
