If you've got Mexican on the mind, a recent restaurant opening is need-to-know. Called Cocina de Barrio, it's at 3707 Fifth Ave. in Hillcrest.
Cocina de Barrio boasts of "bringing the flavors of Oaxaca" to the neighborhood, in the form of such dishes as pork al pastor tacos, raw tuna tostadas and grilled Pacific oysters with a garlic chipotle butter. In addition, the spot features a tequila and mezcal bar.
With a 4.5-star rating out of 21 reviews on Yelp so far, the new addition has made a promising start.
Harlen B., who was among the first Yelpers to review the spot on Nov. 17, wrote, "Fantastic short-rib mole with egg for brunch. The egg-and-shrimp soufflé is fantastic as well. At this point, the chef doesn't allow substitutions, but the dishes were delicious as is."
Yelper Ricardo A. added, “Very impressed with the food at Cocina de Barrio. Ordered the lamb shank, tostadas de atun, agua chile and taquitos. Everything was delicious, cooked well and the portions were generous.”
Head on over to try it yourself: Cocina de Barrio is open 10 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
