Mexico calls for Russia's participation in Ukraine peace summit in Saudi Arabia

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has suggested that Russian representatives should be invited to the upcoming Ukraine peace summit in Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported on July 31.

Obrador stated that Mexico will participate in the negotiations in Saudi Arabia regarding Ukraine only if Russia is also present.

According to him, the summit will take place Aug. 6-7.

"If there's acceptance from both Ukraine and Russia to look for solutions to achieve peace, we'll participate," said Obrador.

“We don't want the Russia-Ukraine war to continue, it's very irrational.”

He added that Russia's war against Ukraine has led to massive human suffering, with “only the military-industrial complex benefitting” from it.

On July 30, The Wall Street Journal reported that Saudi Arabia plans to hold talks on the war between Russia and Ukraine, without Moscow’s participation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly that Kyiv will not sit at a negotiating table with Russia if its occupation forces remain on Ukrainian territory.
