Mexico City students play with food on the catwalk

STORY: These clothes are all made using traditional Mexican ingredients

Location: Mexico City, Mexico

It’s part of a fashion show put on by gastronomy students

from the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana

Students highlighted styles from diverse social groups

UNIVERSITY OF THE CLOISTER OF SOR JUANA, CARMEN LOPEZ, SAYING:

"Behind the design of each one of these costumes, there is research into the urban tribe, there is research into the designs, into the way they express themselves and say what they want to say. It's a challenge in many ways because of the study, the design, the research into what materials they will use, and how to combine the colours."

Each garment incorporates different edible elements

like dried chillies

and chocolate

GASTRONOMY STUDENT, GABRIEL RODRIGUEZ, SAYING:

"We used purple beans to make the jacket. Everything was embroidered by hand. We made the first filter, differentiated the beans by size, perforated them, cleaned them, varnished them, and hand-sew every single bean in the jacket."
