New Mexico has large increases in U-Haul trucks moving in -- and moving out

Jan. 9—Nearly as many people leave New Mexico with U-Haul trucks as arrive, but New Mexico saw a nearly 5 percent increase in one-way U-Haul truck arrivals, putting it at 19th in the rental truck company's rankings of states with the highest growth rates.

But New Mexico also saw a 6 percent increase in U-Haul trucks leaving the state. Arrivals made up 50.3 percent of all U-Haul truck traffic in and out of the state and departures accounted for 49.7 percent, U-Haul reported.

New Mexico's top growth market for inbound trucks is Las Cruces, with other net-gain markets including Taos, Santa Fe, Los Lunas, Carlsbad, Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs, Belen, Truth or Consequences, Gallup and Alamogordo, U-Haul reported.

New Mexico last year ranked No. 10 in percentage growth of incoming U-Haul trucks.

Seven regional states were ahead of New Mexico on the U-Haul Growth Index: Texas, which was ranked No. 1 Arizona; Idaho; Colorado; Utah; Nevada and Montana. California ranked No. 50, with many Californians moving to all of the above states.
