Mexico's undead dodge COVID at zombie parade

It's common for zombie films to starts with a viral outbreak but, with the world in the grips of an actual pandemic, Mexico's walking dead have taken their hunt for brains online.

Jesus Rodriguez is general director of Mexico City's annual zombie walk which usually sees costumed Mexicans take to the streets for a single parade.

"Zombies can also get infected with Covid. If we zombies are infected, then we must not infect our loved ones, our children who are zombies, our grandparents who are with us, and come in costume. We must take care of ourselves. We can zombify from home and help out, that's much better."

Still donning their scariest outfits, zombie participants have been uploading their videos to social media under the hashtag #zombiechallenge.

The contest -- which runs from late September to October 31 -- isn't just for screams and giggles; fans have been donating to fund a national campaign with proceeds fighting to end hunger throughout the country.
