MGM to close Las Vegas resorts and casinos to help slow spread of coronavirus

MGM Resorts International announced all Las Vegas casinos and resorts will close “until further notice” amid the coronavirus outbreak, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Casinos will close on Monday, and MGM won’t take any reservations before May 1, Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The company also operates MGM Grand, the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Luxor, New York-New York, Excalibur and Park MGM, the outlet reported.

MGM is joining Wynn Resorts and Encore in closing its properties on the Las Vegas Strip, NBC Bay Area reported. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas also said it will shut down starting Wednesday, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Caesars Entertainment properties, however, plan to stay open, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak said that all public, private and charter K-12 schools will be closed until at least April 6, the outlet reported.



There are. more than 181,000 confirmed cases globally and more than 7,000 people have died from the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University.
