Miami-Dade and Broward public schools closed Monday by Tropical Storm Eta

Tropical Storm Eta has canceled Monday’s in-person and online classes for Miami-Dade County Public Schools and, eventually, Broward County Public Schools Monday, the districts announced Sunday.

Broward’s original decision early Sunday afternoon was to move all classes online and the administration operating remotely as well. But, around 7 p.m., BCPS Superintendent Robert Runcie announced that the possibility of power outages caused him to change his mind and cancel classes Monday.

Miami-Dade’s wholesale cancellation includes all school-based activities, sports and after-care programs.

On Monday afternoon, “the District will assess conditions for a determination regarding operations on Tuesday,” the MDCPS said.

Monroe County officials on Saturday canceled school for Monday because of the approaching storm.
