Miami Dolphins add drama to wide receiver battle by turning to former child actor

Is Chester Rogers ready for his closeup?

We’ll find out soon. Rogers, a former child actor, will be with the team this week as light practices begin.

Rogers, a wide receiver who spent his first four years with the Colts, signed with Miami Sunday.

Long before he was appearing on TVs every Sunday, Rogers — acting under the name Tre Rogers — appeared in TV programs and movies, including “Madea’s Family Reunion.”

He left Hollywood after just a couple of years and focused on football. Rogers attended Grambling State before catching on with the Colts as an undrafted rookie.

He’s started 22 of the 53 games in which he’s appeared, catching 111 for 1,221 yards and five touchdowns.

Rogers will compete with Isaiah Ford, Ricardo Louis (signed by the Dolphins Saturday), Kirk Merritt, Gary Jennings and Mack Hollins for two (and possibly three) roster spots. Those spots are available after Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson decided to opt out of the 2020 season over COVID-19 concerns.

The Dolphins on Sunday activated linebacker Calvin Munson off the non-football injury list.
