Miami Dolphins will host joint practices with Atlanta Falcons during 2021 preseason

The Miami Dolphins will have joint practices during the 2021 preseason with the Atlanta Falcons in South Florida.

New Falcons coach Arthur Smith shared the news during a news conference Tuesday.

The practices will be held at the Dolphins’ new training facility on the Hard Rock Stadium campus in Miami Gardens before their second preseason game on Aug. 21. The Dolphins are leaving their Davie practice facility this summer, after moving to Nova Southeastern in 1993.

Some of the Miami Gardens practices wit the Falcons will be open to the public, with an announcement coming closer to the preseason.

Dolphins coach Brian Flores hinted the team was already having some discussions about joining another team to practice during the preseason.

The Dolphins’ last joint practice setting came during Flores’ first season in 2019, on the road with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“I’m always in favor of doing joint practices. I think they bring a lot from a camaraderie standpoint, from a competitive standpoint. I think you can get a lot out of those,” Flores said last week.

“I know we did with Tampa a couple of years ago and my experience is you get a lot out of those and it kind of breaks up training camp in a good way, in a positive way.”

The Dolphins will likely convene for their 2021 training camp in late July with two other preseason games on the road: against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 14 and against the Cincinnati Bengals on Aug. 29.

The Dolphins open the 2021 season on the road against the New England Patriots on Sept. 12 and play their home opener the following week against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 19.
