Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa clears concussion protocol after hit by Buffalo Bills

Tua Tagovailoa went into the locker room before the end of the first half in the Miami Dolphins' game against the Buffalo Bills to be tested for a concussion.

Tagovailoa scrambled back to pass near the 2-minute warning and threw a pass to Jaylen Waddle. Bills linebacker Matt Milano pushed Tagovailoa after the pass, sending the quarterback tumbling backward and falling onto the turf at Hard Rock Stadium. The back of his head hit the field, and he struggled to stand back up after the hit.

Milano was flagged for roughing the passer, and Teddy Bridgewater entered the game to fill in at quarterback after Tagovailoa walked into the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion.

The Dolphins said Tagovailoa had a head injury and was questionable to return.

Tua Tagovailoa returns to game after halftime

Tagovailoa cleared concussion protocol during the halftime break and was back on the field for the Dolphins' opening drive in the third quarter.

Tagovailoa is coming off a career game against the Baltimore Ravens, in which he threw for 469 yards and six touchdowns.

NFLPA questions handling of Tua Tagovailoa injury

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported after the game that the NFLPA wanted to open an investigation into how Tagovailoa's injury was handled.

The Dolphins said after the game Tagovailoa had injured his back rather than his head on the play.
