Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa tops fan voting for NFL Pro Bowl Games

Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa was the top-voted player by NFL fans for the 2023 Pro Bowl Games, the NFL announced.

The Hawaiian quarterback of Samoan heritage, who has thrown for a career-best 3,238 yards this season, received 306,861 votes following the conclusion of fan balloting last Thursday.

His teammate Tyreek Hill came in second overall with 293,679 votes, while Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes landed in third place with 271,541 votes.

Tagovailoa, who had a stellar collegiate career at the University of Alabama, turned pro in 2020, signing a four-year rookie contract with the Dolphins worth $30 million.

In addition to his league-leading stats and performances, he has become known for his philanthropy off of the field. The Tua Foundation, a nonprofit he founded in 2020 to support initiatives on the health and wellness of the youth, and other related charitable causes. The foundation focuses its efforts on communities that have had the most prominent impact on Tua including Hawaii, Alabama, and Miami.

The complete selections for the American and National conferences are decided by one-third of each combination of fan, players and coaches voting. Lineups for both conferences composed of 88 Pro Bowl players are set to be announced on Dec. 21.

The NFL also announced that former NFL quarterbacks and siblings Eli and Peyton Manning will serve as opposing head coaches, with Peyton for the AFC and Eli for the NFC.

The 2023 Pro Bowl Games will no longer hold an exhibition contest as in past years and will instead host skills competitions and a seven-on-seven flag football game on Feb. 5 in Las Vegas.
