Miami Dolphins’ starting running back taken to locker room on cart vs Philadelphia Eagles

The Miami Dolphins’ already thin and inexperienced running back corps took another hit.

Starting running back Kalen Ballage, who has struggled for the majority of the year, was taken to the locker room on a cart against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday after injuring his left leg.

Ballage, 23, had 0 yards on three carries prior to the injury and had 135 yards on 74 carries for a 1.8 yards per carry average for the season.

He became the Dolphins’ primary running back after the team traded Kenyan Drake to the Arizona Cardinals and cut Mark Walton following his arrest for aggravated battery of a pregnant person — his fourth run-in with the law this calendar year.

With Ballage out, the Dolphins have rookies Patrick Laird and Myles Gaskin as their primary running backs along with fullback Chandler Cox.

Laird and Gaskin entered Sunday’s game with a combined 41 rushing yards on 11 carries and 10 catches for 73 yards.

Offensive lineman Julien Davenport also missed part of a drive with a knee injury in the first half but returned to the game.
