Miami Hurricanes DT Jalar Holley reportedly enters transfer portal

Miami Hurricanes third-year defensive tackle Jalar Holley has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

Holley appeared in seven games during the 2020 season and played in nine games during his two years with the Hurricanes, recording six tackles.

On3sports first reported that Holley was entering the transfer portal, with Rivals and 247Sports also reporting Holley’s decision.

Holley was a three-star recruit coming out of Buford High School (Buford, Ga.), according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

247Sports ranked him as the nation’s No. 59 defensive tackle prospect in the 2019 class and No. 79 prospect in Georgia.

Holley was one of three defensive tackles who joined the Hurricanes in their 2019 recruiting class along with Jason Blissett and Jared Harrison-Hunte.

Blissett retired from football in February, citing head injuries. He recorded seven tackles in nine games in 2020 after seeing action in one game and redshirting his true freshman season in 2019.

After redshirting the 2019 season, Harrison-Hunte became a solid contributor for the Hurricanes in 2020, recording 17 tackles (six for losses) and three sacks last year.

Holley’s sideline dancing went viral during his true freshman season in 2019, with his dance moves providing the Hurricanes energy during the best stretch of their disappointing 6-7 season when they recorded three consecutive wins against Pittsburgh, Florida State and Louisville.

While players can withdraw their names from the transfer portal at any time, schools aren’t obligated to keep them on scholarship once they’re officially in the portal. Other schools are allowed to contact the player once their name appears in the portal.

Although Holley’s potential departure from the program will impact Miami’s depth at defensive tackle, the Hurricanes will still have most of their experience at the position returning for the 2021 season.

Defensive tackles Nesta Silvera and Jonathan Ford, who are entering their fourth and fifth seasons, respectively, decided to return to UM for 2021.

The Hurricanes will also have Jordan Miller and Harrison-Hunte as returning defensive tackles.

Freshman defensive tackles Leonard Taylor, a five-star recruit out of Miami Palmetto, and Allan Haye out of Chaminade-Madonna will also be on Miami’s roster for 2021.
