Miami Hurricanes WR Jeremiah Payton, TE Larry Hodges unavailable against Louisville

Miami Hurricanes redshirt freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Payton and tight end Larry Hodges are unavailable ahead of No. 17 Miami’s game against No. 18 Louisville on Saturday night, UM announced in its unavailability report an hour before kickoff.

Payton apparently did not travel with the team, indicating as much in an Instagram story post on Friday that was deleted within two hours of going up.

“Wishing the gang the best this week,” he wrote in the post. “Y’all know what we gotta do.”

Junior wide receiver Mark Pope reposted it, adding “We got you.”

Payton had one reception for 13 yards and was targeted three times in Miami’s season-opening win against UAB. He is expected to factor into the passing game more this season after redshirting in 2019, playing in four games and making one catch for 23 yards.

Hodges was listed as having participated against UAB. He is behind juniors Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory on the depth chart.

UM also announced that quarterback Tate Martell is now unavailable for the season. The Sun Sentinel reported late Friday night, according to sources, that Martell opted out of the season.

Along with Payton and Hodges, freshman offensive lineman Issiah Walker Jr. remained on the unavailability report. Coach Manny Diaz said during the week the Hurricanes are still awaiting clearance for medical reasons and from his transfer from Florida in the offseason.

Backup punter Matias Gasc also remains unavailable, as he was against the Blazers.
