Miami Palmetto star Jacory Barney Jr. picks Nebraska over Hurricanes

A top South Florida prospect opted for the Big 10 instead of staying close to home.

Miami Palmetto standout Jacory Barney Jr. committed to Nebraska on Saturday night, announcing his decision on his Instagram account.

Barney is rated a four-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings, and he is listed as the No. 34 athlete and No. 418 player in the 2024 class. He chose Nebraska over offers Miami and West Virginia, among others.

The Miami Palmetto star played all over the Panthers’ offense, taking snaps at wide receiver, running back and quarterback. He primarily played wide receiver, alongside current Hurricanes freshman Robby Washington. Last season, Barney had 37 catches for 559 yards and four touchdowns.

Barney also rushed for 184 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, and he completed 17 of 23 passes for 217 yards and four touchdowns.

Nebraska has been surging on the recruiting trail lately. Under new coach Matth Rhule, the Cornhuskers are ranked inside 247Sports’ top 15 2024 classes. Barney is not the first South Floridian to join the class. Miami Columbus linebacker and Hurricanes legacy Willis McGahee IV, the son of former UM star Willis McGahee, is also committed to Nebraska.
