This Miami pizzeria was named among the best in the world. Here’s why the pies rock
Whoever said Miami didn’t have good pizza? They are going to eat their words — and probably grab a slice or two at O’Munaciello.
The MiMo restaurant just placed at No. 25 on the best 100 pizzerias on the planet (!) list from 50 Top Pizza, a respected Italian online guide curated by a bunch of expert eaters, whose job is to basically to go into a carb coma and get paid for it.
O’Munaciello, with a sister location on Coral Way, is the 305 outpost of a Florentine pizzeria of the same name meaning “Little Monk.” Chef Carmine Candito’s sublime pies are served Neapolitan style — a flatbread rectangular crust made with double- zero finely ground flour, topped with San Marzano tomatoes, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, and fresh basil. The delectable medley is all then baked in a brick oven until reaching gooey-crispy perfection.
The fact that O’Munaciello is being spotlighted again on the worldwide stage is not a huge surprise to foodies; last year it ranked No. 5 on 50 Top’s roundup of 50 U.S. spots, along with La Leggenda (No. 8) in Miami Beach.
On this newly released list, La Leggenda also appears again, but lower down, at No. 73. Still, a nice shout-out, to be sure.
Note: This Española Way fave also dishes it out the Neapolitan way, so if you’re looking for a more familiar Domino’s or Papa John’s triangular experience, stay far away, por favore.
The only other Florida location highlighted by 50 Top is in Tampa, called Fabrica Woodfired Pizza, in the No. 97 slot, if you’re up for a road trip.
