Miami police deputy chief and a commander are dismissed amid investigation, police say
The deputy chief and a commander of the Miami Police Department have been dismissed from duty, pending an investigation.
On Friday, Miami police said Deputy Chief Ronald Papier, 50, and Commander Nerly Papier, 43, were relieved of duty, with pay, due to pending outcome of an internal investigation. The two are married.
Police did not say what they were investigating.
Ronald Papier recently served as interim police chief at the department before Chief Art Acevedo was sworn in earlier this month as the new Miami police chief, having come from Houston. Papier was one of eight finalists for the position.
The personnel moves come three weeks after Nerly had been involved in a crash while driving a police vehicle, Miami New Times reported. At the time, Acevedo told the New Times that internal affairs was looking into the crash.
