A Miami supermarket chain is expanding in Florida. Where are the new locations?

Meet the new Presidente.

The Miami-based supermarket chain opened a new store in West Palm Beach earlier in September, its third Florida opening this year. And there are new locations to come in Miami-Dade and Pompano Beach.

Here’s what to know about the expansion:

Palm Beach County: The new 44,000-square-foot Presidente store opened Sept. 13 at 2505 N. Dixie Highway in Lake Worth Beach on a lot that had been vacant for years, according to the company. The store features a cafeteria touting homestyle food and, along with its traditional grocery meat, dairy and produce staples and household items, aims to serve a large Caribbean population in the neighborhood.

“We pride ourselves in providing under-served and immigrant communities with the products they need and use every day, and that remind them of home, at the best prices,” owner Omar Rodriguez said in a statement.

This new Presidente Supermarket is the sixth to open in the West Palm Beach-area.

Other locations in Florida

Miramar: In August, the Presidente Supermarket chain added a 45,000-square-foot Miramar location in Broward County at 6301 County Line Rd.

Orlando: Earlier this year a new 46,000-square-foot Orlando Presidente opened at 695 South Semoran Blvd. Those two also feature a cafeteria.

Future Presidente locations

Pompano Beach: Presidente hopes to open a 28,000-square-foot store at 277 S. Pompano Parkway before year’s end. It will be the first Presidente in Pompano Beach, and like the recent additions to the chain, will include a cafeteria. The site was formerly a Ruby Tuesday restaurant.

Miami-Dade: Presidente plans to open several more stores in Miami-Dade County soon but isn’t ready to name where just yet, according to a spokeswoman.

About the supermarket chain

History: The family-run chain, co-founded in 1990 by Cuban-American Omar Rodriguez, has grown into one of the largest Hispanic-owned grocers in the United States, with more than 45 stores spread between Miami and Orlando.

Workforce: Presidente estimates it employs more than 3,000 people in Florida.

Quote: “A combination of our great prices and value, with our excellent customer service, has helped us create a loyal client base in Florida, and we are proud to be able to open two new stores to continue serving our customers in their communities,” Rodriguez said.
