Michael Avenatti Goes on the Offensive Against Nike After His Arrest

Michael Avenatti was released from jail on Monday night and got right back on the ol’ Twitter machine to attack Nike once more.

Despite being arrested on charges of extortion (among other things), Avenatti continued to paint Nike as the guilty party, tweeting, “Contrary to Nike’s claims yesterday, they have NOT been cooperating with investigators for over a year. Unless you count lying in response to subpoenas and withholding documents as ‘cooperating.’ They are trying to divert attention from their own crimes.”

He then called out the top pick of last year’s NBA Draft as he accused Nike of corruption, tweeting, “Ask DeAndre Ayton and Nike about the cash payments to his mother and others. Nike’s attempt at diversion and cover-up will fail miserably once prosecutors realize they have been played by Nike and their lawyers at Boies. This reaches the highest levels of Nike.”

Avenatti also tweeted early in the morning, not long after his release, maintaining his innocence.

“I want to thank all of my supporters for your kind words and support today,” Avenatti wrote. “It means a lot to me. I am anxious for people to see what really happened. We never attempted to extort Nike & when the evidence is disclosed, the public will learn the truth about Nike’s crime & coverup.”

Upon his release, Avenatti spoke briefly to the press last night, saying, “I am highly confident that when all of the evidence is laid bare in connection with these cases, when it is all known, when due process occurs, that I will be fully exonerated and justice will be done.”

As The Blast previously reported, Michael Avenatti name-dropped R. Kelly and President Donald Trump when he allegedly tried to extort more than $20 million from Nike.

Ironically enough, Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, offered his legal services to Avenatti, “since I hear he needs a good lawyer.”

He was also charged with wire fraud and bank fraud related to two other separate cases.

Avenatti was released from custody in NYC after two people co-signed a $300,000 bond for him.
