Michael Douglas has paid tribute after the death of his dad Kirk Douglas’ widow.

Anne Douglas died at her home in Beverly Hills on Thursday (29 April) at the age of 102, just over a year after her husband Kirk passed away.

Michael, 76, told People magazine: "Anne was more than a stepmother, and never 'wicked’.”

“She brought out the best in all of us, especially our father,” he said.

“Dad would never have had the career he did without Anne's support and partnership.

"Catherine [Zeta-Jones] and I and the children adored her; she will always be in our hearts."

The Romancing The Stone star said his father could never keep a secret but that Anne was the opposite.

“That's why I was so moved when I read their co-authored book, Kirk And Anne, in which she talked about her early life in Germany; her war years in occupied Paris; and her career before she met my father," he said.

“She also included their private correspondence, which gave me new insights into their courtship and marriage."

Actor Kirk had two sons – Michael and Joel – with first wife Diana Dill before they split in 1951.

He married producer Anne in 1954 and they had two sons together.

Anne died just days after she turned 102.

Wishing her a happy birthday on 23 April, Michael shared a family picture on Instagram.

It showed Anne and Kirk, him and wife Zeta-Jones and their children Dylan, 20, and Carys, 18.

“Happy Birthday Anne Douglas! We love you!” he wrote.

Zeta-Jones also shared a picture of her with her “extraordinary mother in law”.

“You are a joy, an inspiration and so loved by us all," she wrote.

Kirk died on 5 February 2020, at the age of 103.
