Michael McCoy named full-time president and CEO of Great River Health

WEST BURLINGTON — Great River Health's board of directors has unanimously approved the selection of Michael McCoy as full-time president and CEO, the health system announced Wednesday.

McCoy has been serving as interim president and CEO of Great River Health, which operates Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center campuses in West Burlington and Fort Madison, as well as Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant, since Matt Wenzel resigned from his position last month.

“The board is confident that Dr. McCoy has the experience and qualities to lead the organization," board chair Douglas Martin said in a statement. "We are committed to our mission of empowering our people to provide compassionate, high-quality care, while being good stewards of our resources in southeast Iowa."

Prior to McCoy's appointment to interim president and CEO, McCoy served as the health system's chief medical officer since 2015.

McCoy joined the hospital in 1990 as an obstetrician and gynecologist. In 2015, he became the health system's chief medical officer. He remained in that capacity until Wenzel's resignation.

“I look forward to continuing my work with the board, medical staff and employees of the health system," McCoy said. "Our priority is to continue to deliver outstanding services close to home and to strengthen our relationships in our communities.”
