Actor Michael Shannon and musician Jason Narducy will perform REM’s 1983 album “Murmur” at Metro July 30, the music club announced Tuesday. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday.

Shannon, a two-time Oscar nominee known for movies like “The Shape of Water” and “Revolutionary Road,” is a stage actor and ensemble member at Chicago’s A Red Orchid Theatre. (He’s slated to next perform at that North Side theater in 2024, and also formed the indie band Corporal). Jason Narducy, a Chicago musician and singer-songwriter, has toured with Bob Mould and Superchunk and is part of the band Split Single. According to the announcement, they’ll be joined by a backup band of friends for the concert.

“Murmur” was the debut studio album for REM and is considered a milestone in alternative music. The concert will celebrate the 40th anniversary of both the album and the Metro, which has been promoting a series of 40th-birthday events this year.
