Michael Sheen's new BBC drama The Way, starring It's a Sin's Callum Scott Howells, has set a premiere date for later this month.

The three-part series, which was created by Sheen alongside Adam Curtis and Quiz writer James Graham, tells the story of the Driscoll family as they face the prospect of having to leave the country they've called home during civil unrest.

The Way will be available in full on BBC iPlayer from 6am on Monday, February 19, and will air weekly on BBC One from 9pm that evening.

A new trailer has also been released, and you can check it out above. The trailer shows the Driscolls begin their treacherous journey away from their Welsh town as fights break out.

"Ambitious, powerful and surprising, The Way imagines a family caught up in a civil uprising which begins in their small industrial town," reads the show's official synopsis.

"Fleeing unrest, the Driscolls are forced to escape the country they've always called home and the certainties of their old lives. Will they be overwhelmed by their memories of the past, or will they lay their ghosts to rest and take the risk of an unknown future?"

It concludes: "With wit and powerful emotion, The Way taps into the chaos of today's world through the fictional story of an ordinary family caught up in an extraordinary chain of events."

The series also stars House of the Dragon actor Steffan Rhodri, as well as Keeping Faith's Mali Harries, The Pact's Sophie Melville, Beauty and the Beast's Luke Evans, and Sheen himself. James Graham has penned the script.

Last year, Sheen expressed excitement at his TV directing debut, telling BBC: "I feel very lucky to get to work every day with these phenomenal actors

"We've always had so much acting talent here in Wales and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to tell this extraordinary story with the very best at work today."

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, added: "I'm delighted to see cameras now rolling on The Way, with so many immensely talented people coming together to bring Michael, James and Adam's unique and hugely entertaining story to screen."

The Way will be available in full on BBC iPlayer from 6am on Monday, February 19, and airs on BBC One at 9pm with episodes airing weekly.
