Michelin adds 11 Florida restaurants to 2023 list and announces date for new guide

Michelin, which awarded stars to 11 Miami restaurants in 2022, has just added 11 new Florida restaurants to its 2023 guide.

Eight Orlando restaurants and three Tampa restaurants were added to the guide. Orlando and Tampa were the only other Florida cities besides Miami to be included in the 2022 guide.

Michelin announced its 2023 Miami additions in February: Brasserie Laurel in downtown Miami; Fiola in Coral Gables; Lido in Surfside; Lion & the Rambler in Coral Gables; Rosie’s in Little River; Tambourine Room by Tristan Brandt in Miami Beach; The Gibson Room in Coral Gables; and Walrus Rodeo in Little Haiti.

Some of these restaurants might later be awarded stars or Bib Gourmands (which are awarded to restaurants that provide a good bargain). Right now, the new spots are simply designated as “new” in the guide as a way of highlighting them, according to Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides.

The 2023 Michelin Guide, which could include new stars and Bib Gourmands for Miami, Orlando and Tampa, will be announced on May 11 in Miami at loanDepot park.

Why did Bon Appétit name Miami food city of the year? Because of these restaurants

The French restaurant Brasserie Laurel from Chef Michael Beltran was added to the 2023 Michelin Guide, along with seven other Miami-area restaurants, in February.

“Florida’s finest flavors continue to impress the inspectors, who have enjoyed their visits to the Sunshine State,” Poullennec said in a statement. “The restaurant teams are clearly inspired to serve the most delectable cuisine to food lovers — day in and day out. We are excited to celebrate their accomplishments and can’t wait to share those new discoveries with gourmets and travelers.”

State tourism and marketing agency Visit Florida and local tourism agencies in Miami, Orlando and Tampa are paying the Michelin Guide an estimated $1.5 million over the next three years to rate Florida’s restaurants.

Last year, four Orlando restaurants earned one-star ratings (Capa, a steakhouse at the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World); Soseki (fusion/sushi); Kadence (Japanese/sushi); and Knife & Spoon (a Ritz-Carlton steakhouse). Tampa restaurants were shut out. Will the 2023 guide show Tampa more love? Stay tuned.
