Michelin stars awarded to 4 restaurants in Vietnam for the first time

Renowned French culinary guidebook The Michelin Guides has awarded Michelin stars to four restaurants in Vietnam for the first time as the company unveiled its latest food recommendation book Tuesday.
“Michelin Guide Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh”: The new guidebook details 103 recommended restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, 48 and 55, respectively, as well as 29 establishments that received a Bib Gourmand, restaurants that offer “good food at moderate prices.”
Star awards: The French guidebook also awarded one Michelin star each to four restaurants: Anăn Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City, Hibana by Koki in Hanoi, Gia in Hanoi and Tam Vi in Hanoi.

Star recipients: Anăn Saigon, located in Ho Chi Minh District 1 and founded by Chef Peter Cuong Franklin, is the only recipient in Vietnam of an Asia's 50 Best Restaurants Award for 2023.
Gia, founded by Chef Sam Tran in Hanoi, earned recognition for its “menu that changes with the seasons” and was also “inspired by Vietnamese culinary heritage,” according to Michelin.
Hibana by Koki, the only non-Vietnamese cuisine establishment among the recipients, operates as a 14-seat counter in the basement of Capella Hotel, with Chef Hiroshi Yamaguchi serving as its head chef.

Tam Vi, a restaurant that mainly focuses on northern Vietnamese dishes, aims to satisfy customers with its traditional recipes, restaurant owner Nguyen Bao Anh told AFP after Tuesday’s awards ceremony.
“The restaurant serves traditional food and I think now not many restaurants serve that kind of food that remind people of familiar flavors,” Nguyen, who named the restaurant after her mother, added. “This award is for my mum and I'm proud of her.”
