Michelle Keegan has said she doesn't regret having been photographer for lads' mags earlier in her career, but she does wish the shots had been a little more tasteful.

The 33-year-old actor shot to fame in her early 20s when she landed the role of Tina McIntyre in Coronation Street and was approached to star on the cover of various lads' mags in revealing outfits.

She spoke to the Mail on Sunday's You magazine about having the pictures in her past and admitted that she would have done things differently now.

Keegan said: "I don’t regret doing them. At the time it was the norm and I don’t think I was taken advantage of.

"But I look back now and wish they’d been done a bit more tastefully. Now I’m getting older I’ve learnt I can be in control more. I have got a voice. If I don’t feel that I want to do something in a particular way, I can always say, 'No.'"

Despite having been voted "world's sexiest woman" by one magazine and "sexiest female" at various soap awards ceremonies, Keegan laughed it off by saying most of the votes "probably came from my mother".

Our Girl star Keegan also spoke about the constant rumours of marriage problems with Mark Wright that she had been subjected to while spending months abroad filming the military drama.

She said: "Going away for work is never seen as a good thing, only as a negative, and I don’t understand that. Are you seriously supposed to turn down work in case it impacts your marriage? I find it ridiculous."

Keegan added that the couple now purposefully keep their relationship out of the spotlight after feeling they had "lost control a little bit" around the time of their wedding with constant press coverage about them.

She said it was "nice to have something just for us" and also said that she was sick of regular questioning about when they planned to start a family, saying that it was "no one else’s business".
