Michelle Obama Thanks Beyoncé For 'Homecoming': "The Queen Has Done it Again"

Former first lady Michelle Obama has never hid her love for Beyoncé Knowles. Last year, Obama was discovered dancing like no one was watching at Queen Bey and husband, Jay-Z’s On the Run tour in Paris. Obama later made a second stop on the tour’s run in Maryland, bringing her husband, the former President Barack Obama along for the ride.

And the admiration is most definitely mutual. In a 2012 interview, Beyoncé called Michelle Obama “the ULTIMATE example of a truly strong African American woman.”

Now, with the release of Beyoncé’s Homecoming documentary on Netflix, Michelle Obama has taken to Instagram to celebrate “my dear friend.” In a video tagged to the singer, the caption reads, “so proud of my girl! The Queen has done it again.” The accompanying video shoes Obama talking directly to the camera, praising Beyoncé for “raising the bar” and “doing it flawlessly.” Obama says she isn’t surprised because “I know who you are,” adding that Beyoncé makes her “so proud.”

Obama then goes into discussing the importance and nuance of Homecoming, which “is informed by the black leaders, thinkers, and poets who have paved the way for folks like us.” According to her, Homecoming is both “a celebration” as well as a “call to action,” and will hopefully “inspire the next generation of history makers…who’ll run the world in the years ahead.” The video culminates with a declaration to “keep living your truth.”

There’s something so wonderful about hearing Obama unabashedly express her love for Beyoncé, right down to saying the words “I love you!” The two women are definite friendship goals, built on love, admiration and respect for each other.
