MISHAWAKA — A Mishawaka veterinary clinic announced Thursday that it will treat emergency cases during the holiday weekend in the absence of the area's two urgent care facilities.
On Facebook, Magrane Pet Medical Center said that it will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 3945 Edison Lakes Parkway.
Night Owls Wellness & Urgent Care, 2324 Grape Road, was already closed through the holidays and isn’t scheduled to reopen until 10 a.m. Jan. 3, according to a post on its Facebook page. Then North Central Veterinary Emergency Center, 5714 N. Main St., said it's closed because of employee illnesses.
"Our availability will be for urgent care visits only, and will be provided in a triaged fashion, with each urgent care exam provided at a cost of $155," Magrane wrote in its Facebook post.
It added that severely ill patients that require long-term hospitalization will be transferred to regional 24-hour facilities because Magrane will not have overnight care available this weekend.
"Our team feels strongly that we should be available to fill the void in illness and injury care for our region whenever possible," Magrane wrote on Facebook.
The phone number on Magrane's Facebook post is 574-259-5291.
“We are consolidating healthy team members to our 24-hour locations in Westville and Highland to ensure our ability to provide the high-quality care that our clients and referring vets are accustomed to,” a statement posted on North Central's Facebook page says.
North Central, which opened in Mishawaka this summer in the former Family Video store, suggests that residents in need of emergency veterinary care should contact its Westville, Ind., location at 219-785-7300, NIVES in Fort Wayne at 260-426-1062, or VCA in Kalamazoo at 269-381-5228.
Those clinics all indicated they will be open.
