Michigan copies Ohio State football after beating OSU for the first time in 10 years

Michigan football is celebrating the team's first win over Ohio State since Nov. 26, 2011, by appearing to borrow an Ohio State tradition.

The Wolverines recently tweeted out a picture of a new charm that was given to players in recognition of its 42-27 win on Nov. 27 in Ann Arbor.

It's similar to the "Gold Pants" Ohio State has awarded players for wins over Michigan, a tradition that started after Francis Schmidt commented on the rivalry during his first season as OSU's coach.

How did Ohio State's 'Gold Pants Club' get started?

In 1934, Schmidt said Michigan's football players “put their pants on one leg at a time same as everybody else.”

At the time, Ohio State was 6-22-2 against its rival. After the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines 34-0 that season, the "Gold Pants Club" was founded.

The group comprises businessmen who give miniature gold football pants charms to Buckeye players who take part in wins over the Wolverines.

And there have been quite a few handed out. Since 1934, the Buckeyes have bested Michigan in the series 52-29-4.
