Here's a week-by-week look at the fall color forecast and what's expected to play out:

Week of Sept. 11

As September ushers in the new season, the map reveals that minimal foliage will grace most of Michigan during this week. While autumn's touch is just beginning to be felt, this week sets the stage for the gradual transformation that lies ahead.

Week of Sept. 18

By this week, much of the Lower Peninsula will see patchy foliage, unless you're in the stretch along Lake Michigan from roughly Frankfort down to Indiana and also across the whole lower border.

Week of Sept. 25

Michigan's fall display truly starts to take shape during this week. The Lower Peninsula will see partial foliage spread across much of the region. Meanwhile, the western half of the Upper Peninsula will approach near-peak color season.

Week of Oct. 2

Look for beautiful oranges and reds to start shining through. Most of lower Michigan is near peak conditions. Portions of the Upper Peninsula are in peak season, including areas west of Marquette.

Week of Oct. 9

For those eager to witness Michigan's fall foliage in all its glory, this is the week to head Up North. During this period, most of the area will be in peak color season, offering a breathtaking sight for visitors. Much of the eastern half of the Upper Peninsula is also in peak color during this week.

Week of Oct. 16

As October progresses, the predictor map indicates that by the middle of the month, most of the state will have moved past peak color. The vibrant hues may still be present in areas, but the prime viewing window for autumn's colors is beginning to close.
