Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh sells California home, nearly doubles what he paid

Jim Harbaugh sold his California home in for $11.78 million, turning a significant profit, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The University of Michigan football coach let his house — more like an estate — in the affluent Atherton community near Stanford University go for nearly double what he paid for it, the Times reported.

The former San Francisco 49ers head coach paid $6.3 million for the home in 2012. Still, it sold for less than what he had been seeking for it since last year: $13 million, according to the Times.

Only Harbaugh can say for sure why he didn't sell the house earlier. His future with the school has been in question by sports writers for a couple of years.

In February — as speculation swirled he might become the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings — he announced he would remain a Michigan Man for the foreseeable future.

At the time, Free Press columnist Mitch Albom wrote that Harbaugh didn’t want to reveal details of why he passed on the job, but said the coach was revved up about the Wolverines.

The sale of his 8,500-square-foot West Coast home and guesthouse, seems to back up his claim that he's all in.

If you are wondering, the property has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It sits on 1.3 acres. Neighbors include pro basketball player Steph Curry, former pro football wide receiver Jerry Rice and investor Charles Schwab.

The L.A. Times describes the house as: "Lush landscaping and a sloping roofline touch up the exterior, and inside, beamed ceilings and hardwood floors sandwich bright living spaces. Stone fireplaces anchor the office and living room, which opens outside through sliding glass doors."

The estate includes a trellis-topped patio and a kidney-shaped swimming pool.

Harbaugh, 58, began coaching the Wolverines in 2014. He played for Michigan in college and was a Heisman Trophy finalist. He later was quarterback for the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens and San Diego Chargers.
