Michigan football favored by 16.5 over Purdue to win Big Ten championship game

To no surprise, the Michigan football team is a heavy favorite to repeat as the Big Ten champion.

The Wolverines will face the Purdue Boilermakers in Saturday's Big Ten championship Game (8 p.m., Fox) in Indianapolis, and currently sit as 16.5-point favorites, according to Tipico Sportsbook. The over/under on Saturday's game is 51.5 points.

While Michigan (12-0, 9-0 Big Ten) went undefeated and ranks No. 2 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, Purdue is 8-4, including 6-3 in Big Ten play, and unranked. It secured the Big Ten West championship after beating Indiana 30-16 on Saturday in Bloomington. Michigan and Purdue did not meet during the regular season.

Michigan entered last year's Big Ten title game as a 12-point favorite over Iowa, before beating the Hawkeyes 42-3. It was the Wolverines' first Big Ten championship since 2004, and Jim Harbaugh's first as head coach.

Meanwhile, this is Purdue's first-ever trip to the Big Ten championship game. Michigan won the last matchup between these two teams − 28-10 in 2017 in West Lafayette − and leads the all-time series 45-14. Purdue's last win against Michigan came in 2009, a 38-36 victory in Ann Arbor.
