The Detroit man, who appears to have been wearing dark clothing, had stepped out into the outside southbound lane of Thomas Drive, attempting to assist a truck with backing into Thomas Drive from Perman Place.

The driver of the delivery car began to slow down, so the driver of the white pickup truck changed lanes to the outside, southbound lane of Thomas Drive and collided with the pedestrian, the release states.

Both the pedestrian and the truck came to a stop just south of the intersection, in the outside southbound lane of Thomas Drive. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
