Michigan player takes cleats to Michigan State logo after pregame altercation (Video)
Michigan and Michigan State don’t particularly like each other. And in case that wasn’t already clear after decades of animosity, Michigan linebacker Devin Bush offered a timely reminder on Saturday, hours before the latest iteration of the annual rivalry.
Players getting into it and the Spartan logo getting defaced?
Yup, it's time for @UMichFootball vs. @MSU_Football. pic.twitter.com/iquUXIBRf8

About two hours before kickoff, Bush was caught on camera digging his cleats into the turf at midfield at Spartan Stadium, scuffing up the white Spartan logo painted onto the grass:

This came after Michigan players refused to make way for a Michigan State pregame tradition, the players’ walk across the field:

Already some pushing, shoving and yelling. Michigan players didn't get out of the way for MSU walk. Devin Bush screaming in Spartans' faces as they run back to locker room after this. Bush in yellow. pic.twitter.com/Us9GWyVQch

Bush was one of those Michigan players, and was confronted by a few soon-to-be opponents.
About an hour later, Michigan came through with an official excuse:
Michigan says it was told MSU was going to do its walk at 9:50 am. UM players believed they were allowed to take the field at 10 am. Walk was, per U-M’s understanding, late. No one asked them to leave the field apparently.
And by now you know the result.

But let’s just say nobody seemed too interested in adjusting to fix the misunderstanding. And certainly not Bush, who is in yellow in the video above.
It was after that incident that he took his cleats to the logo – the damage to which was visible from the press box:

It has since been repainted. But this is surely not the last we’ve heard of the animosity between the two teams.
