Michigan Reports 17,162 New Coronavirus Cases, 172 More Deaths

MICHIGAN — Michigan has reported more than 170 new COVID-19 deaths since Wednesday, as the number of deaths attributed to the coronavirus in Michigan nears 9,000.

State health officials on Friday said 17,162 new cases of the coronavirus had been recovered in the past two days, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus in Michigan to 341,941. The state also added 172 more COVID-19 deaths — 108 of which were discovered through records checks. The coronavirus death toll in Michigan is now at 8,933.

Michigan, which did not release updated coronavirus data on Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday, had reported more than 4,000 new cases and 73 more COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday. On Saturday, the state said that over 152,000 Michiganders had recovered from the virus.

Michigan has been slowly moving up the rankings of states with the highest number of reported coronavirus cases, according to the World Health Organization. The state, which had ranked as low as 14th in recent weeks, is currently. No. 9 in the nation. It's also among the Top 10 in the U.S. for reported COVID-19 deaths.

Nearly 13.3 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the U.S., according to the World Health Organization. Almost 270,000 of those cases have resulted in death, while more than 7.8 million have resulted in recovery.

Over 61.6 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. That number includes nearly 1.5 million reported COVID-19 deaths and more than 42.6 million COVID-19 recoveries.
