Michigan Reports 3,168 New Coronavirus Cases Friday

MICHIGAN — Michigan on Friday reported over 3,000 new cases of the coronavirus for the third straight day as the state continues to see a coronavirus surge.

The state added 3,168 new cases Friday, bringing the total number of reported cases in Michigan to 174,388. Health officials also reported 11 more COVID-19 deaths, increasing the coronavirus death toll in Michigan to 7,309.

Friday's coronavirus numbers update comes a day after the state reported its highest single-day increase in cases, adding 3,675 cases. As of last week, the state said nearly 115,000 people in Michigan had recovered from the virus.

Due to the state's recent spike in new cases, COVID Act Now, a nonprofit that analyzes coronavirus trends in states has reported that Michigan is either actively experiencing an outbreak or is at extreme risk. The site reports that coronavirus cases are growing in Michigan and its preparedness is significantly below international standards.

According to COVID Act Now, Michigan is averaging a 25.7 new cases per 100K people, which is calls a "dangerous" number.

Michigan is currently 15th in the U.S. in reported COVID-19 cases, according to the World Health Organization. The state is also 10th in the nation in COVID-19 deaths.

According to the World Health Organization, the U.S. has reported more than 9.2 million COVID-19 cases. That includes more than 234,000 reported COVID-19 deaths and nearly 6 million recoveries from the virus.

Worldwide, over 45.7 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported. Nearly 1.2 million deaths have been attributed to the virus worldwide, while more than 33.1 million people have reportedly recovered from COVID-19 around the world.
