Michigan Reports Over 200 New Coronavirus Cases, 4 New Deaths
MICHIGAN — Four more people in Michigan have died due to the coronavirus, according to the most recent data released by state health officials.
Michigan reported 236 new cases of the virus as of 10 a.m. Monday, bringing the statewide case total to 63,497. The state also reported four new deaths attributed to the virus, upping Michigan's death toll to 5,915.
The state has over 70,000 cases when probable cases are considered, according to data provided by the state. Michigan data shows the 63,497 cases are confirmed, but there remain over 6,700 instances in which a person's illness is probably the coronavirus but has not been confirmed.
Michigan health officials reported that there are 246 total deaths probably related to the coronavirus, but not confirmed. Taking those into account, Michigan's coronavirus death toll would stand at over 6,100.
The number of new cases reported is lower than what the state had been reporting consistently last week. From Wednesday to Saturday, the state reported more than 300 new cases each day, an alarming trend after Michigan had reportedly seen a flattening of the curve allowing for businesses to reopen.
State health officials on Saturday released data showing that more than 51,000 people in Michigan have recovered from the virus.
Michigan over the weekend also dropped out of the Top 10 for states with the most confirmed cases of the coronavirus, The Detroit News reported. The state had previously ranked as high as third in the nation in total cases, and third in the country in total deaths, at various points. Michigan remains No. 6 in the nation in coronavirus deaths.
