Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was taken No.2 overall on Thursday in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Hutchinson was a Heisman Trophy finalist for the Big Ten champions in 2021. Next year two other 2021 Heisman trophy finalist will likely join him as a top-five NFL draft pick.

That includes Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Stroud will enter the 2022 season as one of the top NFL prospects in the country along with the actual 2021 Heisman trophy winner, Bryce Young. Both quarterbacks top Pro Football Focus' list of top college quarterback prospects last week.

Hutchinson, who's joke about the Ohio State-Michigan game visibly irked Stroud during the Heisman trophy ceremony, will now call five former Ohio State standouts, including No. 3 overall pick in 2020 Jeff Okudah, teammates in 202.

Will C.J. Stroud be the No.1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft?

Young will likely top most mock drafts for the next year, but Stroud won't be far behind. Stroud threw for 4,435 yards and 44 touchdowns to just six interceptions last season. He completed 72% of his passes.

Has an Ohio State quarterback ever been taken No. 1 in the NFL Draft?

Joe Burrow, who started his career at Ohio State and later transferred to LSU where he won the Heisman, was taken No.1 overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. But Ohio State has never had a quarterback taken No.1 overall.

Ohio State has had three players taken No. 1 in the draft:

  • Offensive tackle Orlando Pace in 1997

  • Defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson in 1994

  • Linebacker Tom Cousineau in 1979
