For the second year in a row, Michigan State football is adding a player from the national championship team.

On Tuesday, former Georgia defensive back Ameer Speed, who played in all but two games in the Bulldogs' national title season, announced he would be continuing his college career at MSU.

Speed, 6 feet 3 and 211 pounds, started three games for Georgia this season and had a career-high three tackles against Arkansas. A three-star recruit out of Jacksonville, Florida, in 2017, Speed has 25 career tackles in 48 games over five seasons (he only played in two games in 2018 and redshirted).

He joins MSU with one year of eligibility, and wrote on social media that the chance to work with MSU head coach Mel Tucker, the defensive backs coach at Georgia from 2016-2018, is an opportunity Speed did not want to pass on.

"Coach Tucker and Coach (Harlon) Barnett were two people I wanted to work with when I came out of high school," Speed wrote. "I knew that they could develop me into both the man and the player that I strive to be. So to have the opportunity to be coached by the two is truly a blessing."

Last season, MSU added defensive back Ronald Williams from 2020 national champion Alabama team.

Among this year's transfer additions for MSU: Florida defensive Khris Bogle; Mississippi State linebacker Aaron Brule; Wisconsin running back Jalen Berger and UNLV linebacker Jacoby Windom.

NOTEBOOK: MSU announced on Tuesday its spring practice schedule. Beginning March 15, the Spartans will have three practices per week for five weeks, culminating with the Green-White Spring Game on April 16 at Spartan Stadium. The time will be announced later.
