Michigan State football's 2023 recruiting got a big boost Thursday.

Sam Leavitt, a four-star quarterback prospect out of West Linn, Oregon, decomitted from Washington State and then announced he will be a Spartan, via his Twitter account.

Leavitt, who visited MSU last weekend, also received an offer from Washington in recent days.

"It felt like the right place to be when I went on my visit," Leavitt told 247 Sports.  "I loved meeting the staff and seeing what they’re all about.

"I knew probably at the end of my visit or as soon as I got home and talked to my family that it was the place."

Leavitt was ranked by 247 as the No. 1 prospect in Oregon for the 2023 class.

MSU now has 12 verbal commitments for its 2023 recruiting class, according to 247 Sports.

The three-day early signing period for the class of 2023 begins Wednesday, with the official National Signing Day slated for Feb. 1.
