Michigan State football is without its starting center Saturday for its rivalry game against No. 14 Michigan.

Senior Matt Allen is not in uniform, with sophomore Nick Samac working with starting quarterback Rocky Lombardi and the first-team offense during warmups. Allen is with the team but wearing a track suit.

Allen started last week against Rutgers and in the Spartans’ Pinstripe Bowl win over Wake Forest to end the 2019 season, but Samac made four starts at the end of the regular season when Allen was out with an injury.

MSU wide receiver Tre Mosley (right leg) is in uniform. Coach Mel Tucker on Tuesday said the sophomore was day-to-day.

“It was a physical week,” Tucker said on WJR’s pregame radio show. "The execution got better and better as the week went on.”

Among those who are not dressed: OL Luke Campbell, OL Devontae Dobbs, WR C.J. Hayes, WR Laress Nelson, TE/FB Max Rosenthal and RB Anthony Williams.

The Spartans and Wolverines kick off at noon. Tucker said MSU did not put the ball on the ground much during practice this week after committing seven turnovers in a 38-27 loss to Rutgers last Saturday.

“We worked extra hard on ball security,” Tucker said. “Taking care of the ball is huge. ... When you have seven turnovers, you have to figure out a way to change the stimulus.”
