Michigan State players jump Michigan football player after game

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan football beat rival Michigan State, 29-7, on Saturday night — and then it turned ugly.

After the game, the two teams started scuffling on the field and perpetuated the conflict moments later. While the bulk of the Wolverines were still on the field, one Michigan football player made his way up the tunnel, where two eyewitnesses shared with WolverinesWire that he was jumped, before several other Spartans got involved, kicking the assaulted player while he was down.

Detroit News Michigan State beat reporter Matt Charbonneau got video of the melee, which doesn’t paint MSU in a very good light.

There was added security in the tunnel for this game, which hasn’t been the case in our eight years of covering the team. Afterward, there was a police presence outside of the Michigan State locker room.

More on this story as it develops.

UPDATE: The player was sophomore cornerback Ja’Den McBurrows.
