Michigan State Police: Homeowner reports shooting armed intruder

CONSTANTINE TWP. — Michigan State Police troopers are investigating a report of a home invasion which resulted in a shooting Friday night.

Troopers from the state police's Marshall Post were dispatched at about 10 p.m. Friday to the 60000 block of Maple Road to a report of a homeowner saying he had shot a male intruder who was armed with a knife and had entered his home, a news release from the state police said.

Troopers arrived at the scene and found a male subject laying outside of the residence with a gunshot wound to the upper thigh, the release said. They provided lifesaving care to the subject until emergency medical services arrived on scene.

The wounded subject was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition, the release said.

This incident is currently under investigation.
