WHEATLAND TWP. — The Michigan State Police Jackson Post is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday, May 28, on North Adams Road east of Somerset Road in Wheatland Township.

Troopers were dispatched at 6:50 a.m. to the crash scene, a news release said. A preliminary investigation showed a 2006 Pontiac passenger car occupied by two Hillsdale County residents was traveling east on North Adams Road when the driver lost control of the car and drove off the roadway.

The vehicle rolled several times, police said.

A 42-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. A young child was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police did not identify the driver or the child.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office, Somerset Township EMS and Fire Department, Addison EMS and Fire Department and the Hillsdale/Lenawee County Medical Examiner's Office assisted at the scene.
