Michigan State signee Max Christie becomes Tom Izzo's first McDonald's All American in 4 years

Michigan State basketball fans received a point of pride Tuesday amid an uncharacteristically poor season.

Spartans signee Max Christie was named to the 2021 McDonald's All American team. He's the first MSU commit recognized by the event since Jaren Jackson Jr. in 2017.

Tom Izzo's recruits were fixtures in the game before this recent dry spell. Miles Bridges, Joshua Langford, Deyonta Davis, Caleb Swanigan (who would eventually flip to Purdue) and Gary Harris were all members.

Christie, a 6-foot-6 guard playing at Rolling Meadows in Chicago's suburbs, is the top senior in Illinois. He's known for his shooting ability but has promise as a defender as well. Christie recently became the top scorer in school history.

He'll join an MSU team coming off one of its worst seasons in recent memory.

The game, typically held at United Center in Chicago, has been canceled because of the novel coronavirus for the second straight season. Fellow Spartan signees Jaden Akins, Pierre Brooks, Max Christie were among the 700 boys and girls nominated as well.

For the first time in a half-decade a Michigan high school basketball player has been named an McDonald's All American.
