Michigan State's Payton Thorne named Big Ten's Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Another week, another Michigan State football player being recognized for his feats on offense.

Payton Thorne, MSU's sophomore quarterback, was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his four-touchdown performance in a win Saturday vs. Miami (Florida). Thorne was 18-for-31 passing, amassing 261 yards without a turnover. He also had a crucial 22-yard run on third down in the fourth quarter.

He was instrumental in the Spartans' 38-17 upset over the Hurricanes, throwing two fourth-quarter touchdowns to seal the win. In three starts this year, Thorne has 726 yards passing, nine touchdowns and no interceptions. His 84.8 QBR (fourth) and 180.1 passer rating (eighth) rank top 10 in the nation.

Thorne shared the award with Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson. Henderson's 277 yards vs. Tulsa broke Archie Griffin's program record for rushing yards in a single game by a freshman.

Spartans junior running back Kenneth Walker III was the conference offensive player of the week after Week 1, thanks to a 264-yard, four-touchdown performance on the road vs. Northwestern. He is the Football Bowl Subdivision's leading rusher (493) by more than 70 yards.

MSU hosts Nebraska at 7 p.m. Saturday.
