Michigan's local newspapers continue historic print journalism legacy

Editor's Note: This article has been updated to include additional media groups.

Print is not dead.

It is unquestionable that the technological era has changed the way news is written, published and consumed. Throughout the 18th century, newspapers spread like wildfire through the colonies ensuring consistent communication and information sharing across the growing country.

Over the course of history, Michigan has been home to hundreds of newspaper publications and today the Michigan Press Association stands more than 170 members strong, not including online-only and college publications.

Below is a partial list of local publications across the state continuing their storied legacy of ensuring the voices and stories of Michiganders are heard and shared in print each day, week or month.

For a comprehensive list of Michigan media organizations, online, print, independent, and conglomerate, visit the Michigan Press Association’s 2023-2024 Membership Directory.
