Michigan temperatures could reach 80 degrees in rare April forecast — but it won't last

Step outside for a minute, take a deep breath, and ask yourself: Is it April or June?

Michigan is finally getting a rare appearance of sunny, 70-degree weather in April, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake. In fact, forecasters say it might even hit 80 degrees and some 30 degrees above normal for this time of year.

That presents an opportunity to get outdoors and make the most of the summer-like week. Here are ideas:

Visit a park

Go for a stroll in the park with your pet or take the kids out to the playground to soak up the sun.

Beacon Park is a local park that offers different events throughout the season. Events include concerts, shopping markets and even yoga classes.

Get ice cream

It's nothing like eating a sweet delicious cold treat on a warm sunny day.

Do yard work

  • April 16: 313 Comedy at Detroit Shipping Company located at 474 Peterboro St. The event is free and starts at 7 p.m.

Take advantage of this week because the summer weather isn't going to last. Weather forecasters say it's back to normal for metro Detroit by Sunday when metro Detroit will see more seasonable temperatures in the mid-50s and low 60s.
